FEI Veterinary Guidance 07/05/2010

Written by ottaviani

 Dear Friends,
please take note of this important information.

 FEI Veterinary Guidance
Reference:
VGn 6/2010
Date:30th April 2010

Treatments and treatment areas at FEI events
Medication in horses is only permitted whilst under FEI competition rules when controlled and authorized by FEI Veterinary Delegates.
Forms must completed by the treating vet and signed by a Veterinary
Delegate or a Member of the Veterinary Commission.
An ETUE(formerly a MF 1 or 2) or a Medication Form 3 (MF 3) is the record of authorization.

Treatments must take place only in designated
treatment areas, unless by prior arrangement with
the FEI Veterinary Delegate or Commission (i.e. fluid therapy in stalls).

At all times the Person Responsible (rider) for administering the treatments must be able to provide a copy of the ETUE/MF authorization required when requested by an FEI veterinary official or steward.

ETUEs must be completed and a treatment area
agreed:
- for the use of a substance from the Controlled
Medication section of the FEI Equine
Prohibited Substances List (the “List”).
- The only exception to this is a clear
emergency, when a retrospective ETUE may
be considered, but may not be authorized in all cases.

Agreed treatment areas are required for the supervised activities of Physical Therapists, but such agreed areas for this activity may be the horses own stable
An agreed treatment area and supervision is not required for simple treatments such as “Ice”, water, cold laser, “magnetic therapies”, “heated blankets” etc etc.
Medication Form 3 must be completed and a treatment area agreed for the use of injectable medications not on the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List. The use of such medications (not “Listed” or permitted in oral formulations does not require either an Medication Form 3 or an agreed treatment area).
