History

In April 1977 a group of 25 international riders - David Broome, Raimondo D’Inzeo, Paul Schockomöhle and Nelson Pessoa among them – were asked by riders taking part in international events to study the establishment of a club that would group them. On 24th June 1977 the IJRC was set up in Vienna.

Membership is open to the first 100 riders of the world-ranking list, to those who have taken part in World Championships, in the Olympics or in at least 5 Nations’ Cups.

The Club strongly believes that only the co operation between riders, organisers and federal body is the key to bring the equestrian sport to a higher level.

Aims of the Club
to promote the image of the equestrian sport in the jumping section to promote the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play (integrity of the sport) to co-operate with the competent federal authorities towards the drawing up of new norms and regulations to support national and international association and international show jumping organisers in all their efforts to promote the image of equestrian sport to protect the image and interests of riders who respect the above objectives. In February 1999 the then President Franke Sloothaak and the Secretary General Eric Wauters asked Avv. Gianrico Moor and Dr. Eleonora Ottaviani to prepare the Club’s articles of association in a manner that would be more suitable to the times, and so as to grant concrete operational effect.

In June 1999 the general meeting of the riders’ club approved the new articles of association in Aachen. The meeting elected a new president in the person of Cayetano Martinez de Irujo.
