Wellington, FL (February 7, 2021) - Less than one second separated the top 3 horses and riders in Friday's $15,000 1.40M Turf Tour Grand Prix, a close race that saw Ireland's Darragh Kenny secure his second back to back win in the weekly class, held during Turf Tour 5 at The Ridge at Wellington. Kenny also won Turf Tour 4's Grand Prix at Polo West, and will have the option to go 3-for3 next week, February 10-12 on the beautiful polo fields of To-Kalon Farm (13075 57th Pl S). Each week the Turf Tour hosts a $3,000 1.30M Speed Stake, the $5,000 1.30M Rising Star Classic, and the $15,000 1.40M Grand Prix, as well as all levels of show jumping from .80M - 1.40M. The venue changes each week while the schedule stays the same, offering an ideal opportunity to show at beautiful farms around Wellington and on all natural surfaces. For the hunter and equitation crowd, The Ridge hosts USEF Equitation Tuesdays each week through April!
In a class littered with Olympians and a course designed by FEI and Olympic designer Leopoldo Palacios, Kenny once again proved his competitiveness and ability to guide a horse through the challenges presented at the Grand Prix level. Palacios tested the riders' and their mounts capabilities with a number of lines and fences, including a triple bar to a triple combination (two verticals to an oxer), a wall to a skinny to an oxer that proved to be the day's bogey fence, an in-and-out to a bending line oxer, and a jump-off that encouraged a quick pace and fast turns that ultimately cost rails. Kenny rode Kerry Anne LLC's Urhelia Lutterbach to a double clear effort and a jump-off time of 37.164, narrowly beating out the class leader Leslie Howard and After Eight, who galloped through the timers in 37.188. Carly Anthony and Sun Song finished third in 37.457 seconds.
