The year of Covid-19 – 2020 -- witnessed a health, social and economic drama, the likes of which the world has never seen. It was a drama which pulled sport into its terrible embrace and which saw the cancellation of every show, event and initiative. As a result, the YRA Board has decided to extend all activities for young riders selected in 2020 into 2021. Team 2020 will therefore be the protagonist of the season to come.
The Board of the Athenaeum of the YRA, composed of Eleonora Ottaviani and Breido Graf zu Rantzau, in agreement with sports manager Sven Holmberg, has appointed Jean-Maurice Bonneau, who already formed part of the YRA’s excellent training team, as technical consultant and ‘YRA Chef d’Equipe’.
Born in Vendée, France in 1959, Bonneau had an extraordinary career as a young rider before being selected for the French national team as a top showjumper. In 1996, he retired from his show jumping career in order to dedicate himself to training.
His experience, knowledge of show jumping at the highest levels, and abilities as a trainer, coach and manager, combine with exceptional organisational skills to make him one of the most respected personalities in world equestrian sport. An expert technician and selector for both teams and individuals, Bonneau escorted the French team and many international riders to title and medal victories at European and World Championships, as well as innumerable successes at the world’s most prestigious events.
