Martin Fuchs rises to the top after thrilling second day

The overnight leaders from Sweden slipped to third while Switzerland jumped to the top of the team leaderboard at the Longines FEI Jumping European Championships 2021 in Riesenbeck, Germany today.

The first round of the team competition was a gripping affair, and when Rolf-Goran Bengtsson and Ermindo W were the only Swedish pair to keep a clean sheet then Sweden finished the day on a running tally of 11.59.

This leaves them less than a fence behind Germany whose scoreline moved on to 8.77 when they had to add the four faults collected by anchorman and overnight individual leader, David Will with C Vier.

However the hosts held on to silver medal spot while, thanks to three clean runs from Elian Baumann with Campari Z, Martin Fuchs with Leone Jei and Steve Guerdat with Albfuehren’s Maddox the Swiss were promoted from bronze medal position to go out are in front carrying their first-day score of 5.47.

The top 10 teams will jump again tomorrow to decide the team medals.

Defending individual champion, Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs, is leading the individual rankings ahead of Germany’s Christian Kukuk in second and Sweden’s Bengtsson in third going into the third day of Championship competition.
