ROAD TO ROLEX IJRC TOP 10 FINAL: Scott Brash

SCOTT BRASH (GBR) - 23/11/1985

HORSE: HELLO CHADORA LADY

Born in Peebles, Scotland, Scott Brash is one of Britain's top show jumpers, with two Olympic team golds, a handful of European Championship medals and the prestigious Rolex Grand Slam of Show jumping title to his name.

He was part of Great Britain's show jumping team in London (on Hello Sanctos), Tokyo and Paris (on Hello Jefferson).

On the international show jumping circuit, Scott has a reputation for being ice-cold. No course can rattle his nerves. Nothing can alter his cool composure.

Which is absolutely true but... behind all this there is a deep philosophy in which horses are the balancing centre of any performance. “For me, it’s all about understanding your horse and keeping it simple – you’ve always got to be asking yourself ‘how can I better help my horse understand what I’m asking,” he explains.

Scott grew up riding ponies and started show jumping with The Pony Club at the age of 10. Since then, he has achieved the most prestigious results through a hard-working mentality that has been instilled in him from a young age.

Scott Brash - who admitted Geneva is one of his favourite shows - has already competed in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final five times. He was first in 2014 and second in 2017.

Chat on the sidelines

Talking about the current season, what do you consider your highlight?

I think it was Calgary… Winning in Spruce Meadows was special. It was such a big tough Grand Prix and yeah, Jefferson was fantastic. We’ve been so delighted to win one of the biggest Grand Prix of the world. I also had a very good show in Barcelona. I think this was also a really good highlight of the year. Folie winning the Grand Prix on Friday night and then Jefferson helping team Great Britain win the League of Nations final in Barcelona. I think they've been two big highlights, but we've had a very good season. I've been very lucky this season. I've had a very good year.

You were first in the Top 10 in 2014. What are you planning for this year?

It was a long time ago. It's about time.... It's certainly nice to be back in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final. It was our goal at the start of the season and we’re delighted we made it. I’m very happy to be a part of the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final because I think it's such an incredible class. It's a class that every rider wants to be in.

Which horse are you planning to ride in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final?

I'm not 100% sure yet, but we'll see later on.

What are your feelings about the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final?

I think it's such an incredible competition. I think the whole world watches this class. It's got a great atmosphere. It's just good to be a part of it and it’s quite hard to have any preview. So many guys are going really well right now. Gilles Thomas has been in great form. Kent Farrington's in great form. Christian Kukuk's in great form. I think it's going to be a really good challenge this year.
