WE ASKED RODRIGO PESSOA

The last time that Ireland took part in the Olympic Games with a national showjumping team was in 2004.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Irish team will compete in the show jumping category as one the strongest teams at the games. This was amply demonstrated when Ireland won the final of the Barcelona Nations Cup, qualifying for the Olympics in grand style.

We asked Rodrigo Pessoa, chef d'equipe of the Irish squad, which three qualities are required for a winning team.

Here is what he said:

- Union, teamwork.
The overall interest of the team must always come before personal interest.

- Planning, to be followed focussing on every detail with precise objectives.

- Execution, always to maximum capacity;
when it counts -- get it right!
