OnTuesday 1st April 2014, the different nations intending to compete in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy were announced by the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee. Seventy-two nations expressed their wish to take part in this international event, which will be held from 23 August to 7 September 2014.
The number of countries intending to take part in the event exceeds that of the two previous editions of the World Equestrian Games. In 2010, Lexington played host to 58 nations, compared with 59 nations in Aachen four years previously.
The return of this great international event to Europe and the development of equestrian sport all over the globe go some way towards explaining this significant increase.
“The number of nations wishing to take part in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy shows the enthusiasm that this event evokes and confirms that equestrian sport is thriving all over the world. We are delighted that all of these nations will come together in Normandy this summer. 144 days before the event, the Organising Committee’s teams are staying focused in order to welcome them in the best possible way,” stated Laurent Cellier, Director of Sports for the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee.
Nine nations intend to compete in all 8 official disciplines: Germany, Australia, Austria, the United States, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
Meanwhile, a handful of new nations such as Tunisia, Costa Rica and Thailand are hoping to make their World Equestrian Games debut.
Between now and then, the Organising Committee will continue its preparations in order to receive all of the nations in the best possible conditions.
The definitive list of participating nations, as well as the number of athletes entered, will be announced on 21 July.
With the Entries in Principle National Federations indicate in which disciplines they intend to participate with a team or individuals. These intentions do not guarantee the participation of each delegation but it however represent a significant first step within the entry process.
