AMAZING team final at the FEI European Championships in Aachen

21 August-This was a really amazing Championship, very emotional to be watched by the huge crowd in the big Aachen arena under a perfect shining sun.

Till the very end of the competition nobody know which were the 3 winning team, as the third Duch rider Jur Vrieling collected one time fault. Jur joked that he had this time fault to make the competition more exciting!

The course built by Frank Rothenberger, was very technical: the jumps were set at a height of 1.60m as a Championship course has to be.

The winning team is the World Championship team: the dutch team composed by Jeroen Dubbeldam (SFN Zenith N.O.P.), Jur Vrieling (VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P.), Maikel Van der Vleuten (Verdi) and Gerco Schröder (Glock´s Cognac Champblanc).

Rob Ehrens the Dutch chef d'Equipe, during the press conference after the competition, underlined how his team works really well together, how his riders are so amazing and he added that there are also some other Dutch riders that are knocking the door and could be part of the team. He added to do more championships like this as possible!

The Silver go’s to Team Germany finishing today with four penalties. Both Christian Ahlmann (Taloubet Z) and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (Fibonacci 17) jumped clear. Daniel Deusser (Cornet d’Amour) and Ludger Beerbaum (Chiara 222) had both one rail down. The German Chef d'Equipe, Otto Becker, after being a bit disappointed not to win the gold, was well pleased with the performance of his team, that tried so hard till the end, against so many good riders and horses, as Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum underlined.

Also Otto Becker agreed that there should be many championships like this one, but without the Dutch team!

The Bronze medal is – maybe a bit surprisingly – for Team Switzerland. France had an off-day. Starting today in the lead they finished in the fifth place after a total of 16 points.

Martin Fuchs said that their chef d'Equipe was fantastic to motivate them and to get them back from the thirteenth to the third final position. Martin added that Steve Guerdat also help them a lot , being in Aachen with them, walking the course with the team and helping them in the warm up arena. So they rode also to try to qualify for the Olympics and allow Steve the possibility to defend his title!

Regarding the individual competition Sergio Alvares Moya is in the lead followed by Cassio Rivetti and Jeroen Dubbeldam.

The final individual FEI European Championship will be this Sunday at 4:00.
