Canada bags Longines World Cup GP sponsorship

26 March - Toronto’s Royal Horse Show has been named as part of the newly created Longines FEI World Cup Jumping North American League, from this year to 2017.

Longines will also sponsor the show’s World Cup Grand Prix, said Peter Cullen, Chairman of The Royal Horse Show.

“The Royal is pleased to welcome Longines as title partner of the Longines FEI World CupTM Grand Prix. Tradition, elegance and performance are qualities that are shared by both The Royal and Longines, which makes this a perfect match.”

The 14 qualifying events of the prestigious series will be held at some of the most glamourous and prestigious venues on the show jumping circuit including Washington, DC and Las Vegas, Nevada. In its 93rd year, the the Royal Horse Show is a fitting addition to the World Cup calendar, as the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world’s largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show.

The FEI World Cup Series is the world’s oldest indoor jumping series and has been a feature competition at The Royal since 1981. Canada’s own Ian Millar has won the final twice, aboard his great mount Big Ben, and he is in with a chance to do it again.

“The Longines FEI World Cup Jumping North American League is a massive boost to our sport and will dominate the headlines in 2015,” said John Madden, FEI 1st Vice-President and Chair of the FEI Jumping Committee .

“The new league is a huge opportunity for our athletes to shine on a North American stage and showcase top-level equestrian sport to fans across North America and the world.”

Top riders from around the globe will vie for one of only 40 coveted positions available at the finals to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2016, with The Royal marking the final North American opportunity to qualify.
