Carina Mayer, currently FEI Senior Manager and Head of Dressage & Para-Equestrian Dressage ad interim, will be joining the
European Equestrian Federation as
Secretary General in
October 2016.“While I am of course very sad to leave my talented colleagues in Lausanne I am extremely grateful for six years of invaluable mentorship and loyal support offered to me at the FEI. I am fortunate that my exciting new role will allow me to stay closely connected with the FEI Family and to continue the dialogue and cooperation with national federations and stakeholders on a European level. I will be relocating to Germany, my home country, after the conclusion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and I am very much looking forward to shaping the future of European equestrian sport together with all members and stakeholders of the EEF.”
Prior to joining the FEI in 2010, Carina competed as a Dressage rider on national level in Germany and obtained a Bachelor degree in sports management, later also added a Master degree in international sports law. She represented the FEI at major Championships and Games and acted as interim Head of the FEI Dressage & Para-Equestrian Dressage department since September 2015 due to long-term illness of the FEI Dressage Director Trond Asmyr.
“Carina has been a truly valuable member of the FEI team at Headquarters over the past six years”, FEI Secretary General Sabrina Ibáñez said. “She has risen up the ranks in the FEI incredibly rapidly to take over the lead of the Dressage & Para-Equestrian Dressage Department in September last year. While we will of course miss Carina, I couldn't be happier to see a woman take up this very important position with the European Equestrian Federation, echoing the gender equality factor that is so central to equestrian sport. I have absolutely no doubt that she will be a brilliant and dynamic Secretary General and wish her every success in the post.”
EEF President Hanfried Haring commented: “EEF is a young and dynamic organisation powered by its 41 Member Federations and 8 Associate Member Organisations. So we have been looking for a young, dynamic and powerful Secretary General. And we have got it!"
