11 May- Harrie Smolders and his 15 year old mare Regina Z started in great form at the Global Champions Tour GP in Shanghai, they stayed clear in the first two rounds and went through to the jump off together with 7 other combinations.
First one to start in the jump off was Swiss rider Pius Schwizer with Caretina De Joter and he set a very quick lead time to beat, 34.20 seconds.
Harrie and Regina were second last to start and they were incredibly fast and precise with a time of 33.57.
Last combination Michael Whitaker and Viking couldn't do better and ended at a 3rd place with 34.99.
Olympic bronze medallist Kamal Bahamdan from Saudi Arabia was fourth (35.16sec), with Scott taking the fifth spot (36sec) and Jessica sixth (36.87).
“It's a very special moment for me,” said Harrie, who celebrated his first GCT Grand Prix win. “To win at a Global Champions Tour Grand Prix with her is really great."
Scott Brash remains at the top of series leaderboard, and is 10-points clear of Brazil’s Luciana Diniz in second place.
The tour now moves to Hamburg, Germany for the fifth leg of the championship (14-17 May)
