THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS FOR THE CSIO BARCELONA 2016 FURUSIYYA FEI NATIONS CUP™ JUMPING
After 8 months of qualifiers, the best 18 nations from the 6 qualifying regions will descend on Barcelona (from September 22nd to 25th of September) for the star-studded Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final where the annual team title will be up for grabs once again. In 2015, Belgium reigned supreme, but the 2016 outcome is still very much in the air, with nerves, experience and the unpredictable nature of equestrian sport making for an intense Final.
The Final will also be the first big event after the Olympic Games, where the teams will be pitted against each other once again to prove their worth and fighting spirit.
In Barcelona everything is ready for the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona to host the best riders and horses in the world.
Following the dispute of the various world leagues and shortly after the unforgettable Rio Olympics, the provisional list of countries participating in the fourth Furusiyya FEI Nations CupTM are: Qatar, UAE, United States, Mexico, Colombia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Great Britain, Egypt, Ukraine and Spain. This year’s Olympic medallists France, United States and Germany will try to maintain supremacy in a competition that has all the right ingredients to become the most exciting equestrian event of the season. It seems that the teams will come up with their best competitors to face the competition with guaranteed success.
Nick Skelton with Big Star, gold in the individual showjumping competition at the Rio Olympics, has just confirmed his participation in the CSIO Barcelona as a member of the British team. Even though the final entries can not be completely assured until a few days before the competition, when the list of riders and amazons is finally revealed, everything suggests that the oldest international sporting event in Spain will count with the participation of the Top Ten in its 105 edition.
