23 August - Today 25 of the best riders in Europe competed in the Individual Show Jumping Final in the Aachen Main Arena, under the eyes of an enthusiastic public.
The first round built by Frank Rothenberger, was very difficult as not many of horses jumped a clear round. At the end Dutch rider Jeroen Dubbeldam (Zenith SFN N.O.P) was in the lead while the leader after the 2 days, the Spanish rider Sergio Alvarez Moya, having one fence down on Carlo, went out from the medal zone.
The second round proved to be a little bit easier with the majority of the riders jumping clear, the big problem was the time, as a lot of riders had time penalties.
Few riders far from the medal zone, retired their horse before the second round.
Unluckily after the first round, Cornet d’Amour ridden by Daniel Deusser was disqualified because of some blood from a spur mark.
Janika Sprunger didn't jump also the first round, because she said that her horse Bonnie that helped Switzerland to win the bronze team medal 2 days ago, is only 9 year old.
So Janika explain that without a chance to win a medal, she prefered not to give to the young Bonnie too much pressure.
Going back to the competition,
the last to jump was the winner Jeroen Dubbeldam that with a perfect clear round with only one time fault became the new Fei European Championship.
The silver medal went to Gregory Wathelet (BEL) that jumped clear too.
In third place: Simon Delestre that also produced a clar round and won the bronze medal.
Jeroen Dubbeldam is the first rider in the world that won all the 3 titles: Olympic Game, World championship and European championship!
